Guatemala Preteen
Preteen Trip ages: 10-12
Serve in Guatemala, the Land of Eternal Spring, where jungle forests hide ancient Mayan ruins, coffee fields spread across the bases of volcanoes and weavers create colorful fabrics for the local markets.
Ministry: You will serve alongside the ministry of Encounter by assisting with English Bible Clubs and preparing the school property for another year. The playground equipment your team will construct will bring joy to many children in Guatemala. Your project will also include cleaning, painting, and landscaping while watching daily life unfold in this lively community.
Travel: After your training at the Lord’s Boot Camp, you will bus to the Orlando International Airport and board a flight to Dallas. A connecting flight takes you across the Caribbean Sea before arriving in Guatemala City. From the airport you will bus 60 miles to Jocotenango.
Adventure: Antigua is a UNESCO world heritage site preserved with the cobblestone streets and old colonial buildings constructed in the 16th century by the Spanish. It is truly a trip back in time. You will have the opportunity to barter for hammocks, leather goods, blankets and wood carvings in the open markets of Antigua. Music and street performers will greet you as you visit Central Park and view ruins over 500 years old! A day is planned to hike through the misty trails of Volcano Pacaya and roast marshmallows over the sizzling rocks near the top followed by a dip in the thermal pools of Santa Terasita.
Project Expense $2590 U.S. plus $30 Registration Fee
