Justin & Lindsey Casper Newsletter (Winter 2021)

Dear Friends, Family, and Former Team Members,

A belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! We hope that you were able to enjoy your holidays with as much normalcy as possible. We were blessed to get to spend Christmas and New Years in Ohio with our families. Becca got the idea in her head that she wanted to have a white Christmas this year. She prayed daily for God to allow it to happen, and He graciously answered her prayers. The kids had a blast building snowmen, sledding, and eating snow ice cream.

Justin continues to be busy as part of the Land Crew Recently he’s been tasked with cleaning out the Print Shop and former student lounge. The goal is to renovate it into a new BMW student lounge in the near future. He also continues to be a part of the daily upkeep and maintenance of the grounds.

A few months ago, Justin and I both tested positive for the coronavirus. It was a scary time for us both, as we were very concerned with Noah and Shiloh getting it, as they both have asthma, but the Lord protected the kids, and they had very mild cases of it. As adults, we faired worse, but we are all completely better now! We were so blessed to have people from Teen Missions, and from our church, reach out to us with encouraging messages and calls, picking up groceries for us, and praying and checking in on us.

The kids and I dove excitedly into learning about Asia. With all of the sickness, it has taken us longer to get through the unit than planned, but it has been so much fun! Noah’s favorite part has been learning about all of the different kinds of food. We’ve watched numerous cooking videos, and tried our hands at a lot of Asian recipes. The kids all agree that they have liked chicken adobo from the Philippines the best. Levi’s favorite thing was learning all about Godzilla when we studied Japan. We learned how much the process of making a film has changed throughout the years. Becca and Shiloh agree that we must visit the Great Wall of China someday. We watched a documentary and learned that at certain parts of the wall, you can toboggan down it once you’re done with your tour. This is now on their bucket lists, and to be honest, mine too!

Being safe with the pandemic has made having the BMW students into our home a little tricky. It hasn’t been able to happen as often as we had planned, but the Lord has blessed the times that we have been able to.  We also have started playing sand volleyball with some of them on Sunday afternoons. It’s been great getting to fellowship with them in different ways.

I finished my last women’s Bible study that I was involved in at my church. I loved it so much that I signed up to do the next one. This one is a Jen Wilkin Bible study on the Psalms. We just had our introductory week, and it’s safe to say that I’m going to learn so much through this study. I have always loved English, and we will be diving into these Hebrew poems very literally. Literary devices that I haven’t thought about in years will come into play. It will be hard work, but I pray it will yield great fruit!

We were able to recently visit the Kennedy Space Center for the first time. We drive past it every single Sunday on our way to church, and the kids have been longing to go. We took advantage of a weekend that had a great discount for the residents that live in our county. It was a great family trip.

For this coming summer, we are assigned as leaders on the Iowa Preteen Team. This was the same team we were supposed to be a part of last year, but with the pandemic we weren’t able to have it. Pray that everything will be opened up for this summer, and we can have all of our summer teams. So far, there are over 300 teens, preteens and leaders signed up.

We hope this letter finds you well. As always, we are so thankful for each and every one of you!!

Prayer requests

Continued health

Support for our kids to go with us on the summer team

In Christ,

Justin, Lindsey, Noah, Levi, Rebecca, and Shiloh Casper
