Anthony & Shawna Myers Newsletter (Winter 2025)
Since I began writing this letter, a few months have passed and we have jumped right into 2025 with both feet! But we want to begin with praising God for His faithfulness to us. We are grateful for our support team, prayer partners, family and friends. We are excited about what the Lord has done this past year through Teen Missions and are thankful to be a part of it. We anticipate great things from the Lord in 2025!
Past few months…Ministry
As mentioned in the last letter, December and January are some of the busiest months for Teen Missions at our overseas bases. They are running the same program we do here in the summer, but with their own people, during their summertime. Boot Camps ran in Australia, Honduras (2 locations), Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Zambia (4 locations), Tanzania (3 locations), Uganda (2 locations) and South Africa. It has been exciting to see the things they are doing to help their neighbors. We do not have all the reports back, but we do know that there were over 1,600 teens serving on 78 teams in 16 Boot Camps around the world. To God be the glory! Please be sure to read the incredible story of Mabel on the back of this letter, who came to know the Lord through the ministry in Zambia.
We made an unexpected, two-week trip to Asia in early February to visit a couple of bases there. It was a productive trip, and it was good to see the staff and students. We were so thankful to be able to go. These trips are as much of an encouragement to us as it is to the staff overseas. The staff and students helped Anthony celebrate his birthday with cake and pizza! We were overseas during the Superbowl, but our kids kept us updated on how things were going! Go Eagles!
Past few months…Family
Our 5th grandchild, Elias Jiho Kwak was born on October 22, 2024 in Texas. He’s a cutie! He came a week early, but everything went well, and we were able to spend a week with them in November. Soon after, we headed to Darin’s Sr. night game, which was on November 16. It was emotional as it finalized his time playing football which started when he was around 7! It was a great run, but his body is saying that time is up! He has enjoyed it so much and has been fun to watch.
Christmas was a great time of seeing our whole family in PA. Then between Christmas and New Years, Anthony, Darin and I drove up to Ontario to see my brother, niece and their families, as well as some of my cousins whom I haven’t seen in years. We enjoyed visiting my home church in Barrie and were welcomed graciously as we talked with a lot of people. They have supported and encouraged us for many years. It was a lot packed in the few days we were there, but it was such a fun time. We had our share of snow, but the roads were good, for which we are thankful. We stopped at Niagara Falls on the way back to PA, enjoyed a few more days with the kids, and then drove back down to Florida.
Looking ahead…Ministry
By the time we got back to work, there were a number of volunteer snowbirds here ready to help out for the next few months. We are so thankful for them. They make puppets and stages, drama props, hygiene products, benches, and whatever is needed for our teams and bases. They are such a blessing and help with our workload tremendously. It has been unusually cold in Florida (including snow in the Panhandle), so I think they must have brought it down with them! :-)
We will be having our annual Tough Gator 5K Mud Run on May 3rd. Last year we had over 650 participants and we are looking forward to passing that this year! With its unique obstacles, some of which we use during our summer Obstacle Course, it makes it one of the most exciting mud runs around. We are thankful for the funds it generates that are sent overseas to our bases to help the needy.
We are staying in the office this summer to be part of the Launch Team (summer home staff). We will be helping to answer phones 24 hours a day, put team reports on the web, run the Debriefs, etc. It is vital that there are people here in the office as contacts for the teams and the bases overseas.
Looking ahead…Family
2025 is going to be an exciting year for the Myers family. Darin will graduate on May 10th and will move back to Florida. He will be returning to his job in Orlando where he did his internship. And...he will be getting married on August 22 to a wonderful young lady whom he met at school. They have known each other since Freshman year, but the Lord brought them together last spring. Maddie is a nurse and said she will enjoy moving to Florida in the fall! She is from Colorado Springs, so we will be going out there for the wedding.
Spring also brings us several visitors each year! We have friends and family coming from Pennsylvania and Ontario this year. If you are coming to Florida, please drop in and see us. We would love to spend some time with you and share what the Lord is doing.
Thank you for your encouragement, prayers and support. We continue to be grateful for the Lord’s goodness to us. Thanks for being a part of what God is doing around the world.
Blessings,
Anthony & Shawna
