Brant & Mary Lane Newsletter (Winter 2025)

Mission Trip to Honduras

In October, we (Brant & Mary) had the opportunity to lead an adult team from our home church denomination (Southern Methodist) to the Honduras Teen Missions base in Santa Cruz. Besides the two of us, there were five men and five women, ages 20 to 70 years old. It was an extra blessing for me (Mary) as my parents were two that were on this trip. This was our first mission trip together and also our first time together on a plane.

During the trip, some of the team had an opportunity to be a part of a children’s/youth ministry while the remaining team members attended church with the Honduras Coordinators’ family—the Honduran Coordinators are Ben and Ana Calderon. Both experiences were a blessing to be a part of!

Several work projects were accomplished, including replacing the screens on windows on the main building at the property, installing ceilings in three of the cabins that house guests/students and repairing tent poles for tents that are used during their Boot Camps. A group of ladies from our team made over 20 school uniform skirts for elementary/middle school girls and a number of dish bags that the students and those attending Boot Camp can use. It was fun for the ladies on our team to teach the Honduran students and the coordinators’ daughters how to use the sewing machines. Brant and best friend Shad, who came on the team, installed a pump to connect the rain water tank to the water system at the base.

Three of our Sojourner school students from the Florida base are doing their internships in Honduras. Seeing Sabrina, Jess and Josiah during the week was encouraging. Some of our team members, as well as Brant and I, have been to Honduras before, so it was special to be able to see the staff and students again. Those who came for the first time quickly got attached to the Calderon family, staff and students. Leaving at the end of our time was bittersweet. Serving alongside our Honduran brothers and sisters was a gift, and we hope to visit again soon!

Honduras has two bases, one in Santa Cruz and another on the coast in La Mosquitia. They recently held their Boot Camps and now have Honduran teams serving in different areas throughout their country. Please keep them in your prayers as they work, minister and spread the Gospel in Honduras.

Family Update

As for our family, we had the opportunity to travel to South Carolina for Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays. We cherish our time at home with our extended family. We were also able to visit a couple of our partnering churches and give them a ministry update. In March, we are planning to be in South Carolina at our sending church in Turbeville to share at their Missions Conference.

We are now settled at home in Florida serving in our different roles. I am teaching Missions II at the Sojourner school during the Winter term and Brant continues his work in the Maintenance Department and on the TMI board. Please pray for Brant as he is currently dealing with health issues. His doctor is trying to figure out what is causing him to not feel well. Because of this the cardiologist strongly advised him not to travel to Peru in January and the TMI leadership sent another couple in his place. He is currently wearing a heart monitor for a month-long period. Pray for him to get the rest he needs and to have strength and energy to go through each day.

Jonathan just finished his first season on the wrestling team at Merritt Island Christian School. It was a tough sport to learn, but he enjoyed it. He is doing well with his studies, having a 3.8 GPA. Annabelle has started her final semester in college and Allison is in her final semester of high school. May will be a busy month for us as their graduations are a week apart from each other in two different states! Jesse is doing well with his 4th grade work and is about to start his second season of baseball with the Merritt Island Little League. He is on the Marlins team.

Summer Plans!!

We are starting to prepare for our summer ministry. It will be here before we know it! Brant and I are planning to lead the Peru team, and Jesse will be going with us. Our team will be in Pucallpa, Peru, working with Refugio de Esperanza (Refuge of Hope), a ministry for disabled children. We’ll be able to engage in various construction projects tailored to the specific needs of this ministry.

Allison has signed up to go to Uganda. Her team will be actively engaged in providing eye-care services and basic medical assistance across various villages and cities. In addition, they’ll also continue laying bricks on the security wall at the base. They will also have opportunities to share the love of Christ with the local adults, teens and children through music, puppets and dramas.

Allison and Jesse will have to raise funds for these trips. If you feel led to partner with them, please let us know, and we will share with you how to give toward their trips.

Jonathan plans to stay in South Carolina this summer with his grandparents. While there, he will have the opportunity to serve at our denomination’s summer camps and also have a chance to be a camper himself during their teen programs.

Annabelle is already looking for a job that she can have once she graduates. She is hoping to find one near the Charleston area, but just wants to go where the Lord leads.

Teens have been signing up for the summer teams. We have 14 teams still open for ages 13-19 years old. If you are interested or know someone who would like to sign up, just go to https://teenmissions.org/mission-trips. We would love for you or someone you know to join us!

We have a prayer request for our family. Over the past year, our financial support has decreased over $500 per month. We are to the point where we felt led to share this concern with you. Please pray that the Lord would lead others to partner with our ministry at Teen Missions to help fill in the gap. If you know of any individuals or churches that would like to hear about Teen Missions and what we are doing, please let us know!

We are very thankful for each of you…for your faithful prayers, encouragement and financial giving. It is our greatest blessing to have you on our ministry team, and we pray the Lord continues to bless you as you continue serving Him.

Love,

     Brant & Mary Lane
