Lane Family Fall Update 2025

Summer Ministry

It’s hard to describe in words the summer we experienced. We (Brant & Mary) had the privilege to lead a team of 18 teens (9 guys, 9 girls), ages 13-17, to Pucallpa, Peru, alongside 3 assistant leaders. Our youngest son, Jesse, was also with us.

In Pucallpa, we served at Refugio de Esperanza (Refuge of Hope). This is a ministry for children, youth and adults with disabilities in Pucallpa. They also serve many children from the community who come to the preschool, primary, special education and secondary school that is on the property. Over 60% of students that attend have a physical and/or mental disability.

During the 19 days we were on the property, our team was able to replace a roof on a building used for a girls’ dormitory, repair a fence on the back of the property and paint the inside and outside of their dining hall and church. We also had the opportunity to play with the children and share our team presentation with them. The time we were there went by quickly. Most of us didn’t want to leave. It was such a blessing to get to know the people at Refuge of Hope and be a part of their life for almost three weeks.

As leaders, it is a gift to spend the summer with these teenagers on our team who love the Lord with all their heart, want to serve Him and be the hands and feet of Jesus wherever He leads. This was seen a lot through their hard work. For the most part, you never heard any complaining. More times than we can count, we had team members who went above and beyond what they were asked to do. This was such a blessing to us as leaders. A couple of examples of this is when some of them would jump in and help in the kitchen alongside our scheduled helpers. Early in the morning, I (Mary) would arrive in the kitchen to find that they did all the prep work for breakfast, which helped me cook it quicker and give extra time to make an extra pot of coffee. In the evenings, they’d jump in after dinner to help get cleaned up faster so we could start our Bible study on time.

We saw a lot of growth in the Lord on our team this summer. It was hard to see them leave, but we know the Lord has great things waiting for them where they live! We are excited to see how the Lord will use them.

While we were in Peru, Allison was serving on a team in Uganda. Their team did evangelism among the children in the villages and also held medical clinics where they gave eye glasses, did basic first aid and also tested people for malaria. Allison had a great summer. She learned a lot and grew in her faith, and it is evident that the Lord is working in her life.

Jonathan also served this summer at our home denomination’s church camp in South Carolina, then attended one week as a camper. He had the opportunity to work with children ages 6-12 years old, and also had the opportunity to share some of his musical talents through playing his guitar and singing. We had many people let us know how much they loved having Jonathan at camp and hearing him sing “How Great Thou Art.”

Now That We’re Home

Since we’ve returned from Peru, it feels like we have been busier than ever. About two weeks after getting back to our home in Florida, Mary, Jesse and Allison traveled to South Carolina. While there, Mary was able to spend some time with Annabelle to shop for her wedding dress. Annabelle will be getting married in March, so she was ready to find her dress! Thankfully, she found it, and wedding planning is full steam ahead! During that week, Mary had the opportunity to visit our home church in Turbeville and share an update with the Woman’s Missionary Society at her parent’s church. She was also able to visit with some of their ministry partners. Brant and Jonathan arrived a week later, and we were able to share at the Cross Roads Bible Fellowship Church in Manning. We were able to surprise Allison that Sunday afternoon to celebrate her 18th birthday. She turned 18 while in Uganda.

Mary returned home with Allison, Jonathan and Jesse because of having to start school, and Brant stayed in South Carolina for two more weeks to visit some of our ministry partners and churches. It was such a blessing for him to be able to catch up with so many of you that walk alongside us as we serve with Teen Missions. We couldn't do it without your prayers and giving! Brant was also able to spend five days volunteering with JAARS in the Land Transportation Department where he served before we came on as staff at Teen Missions.

We are back in Florida and just moved Allison into school at the Sojourner School of Ministry which is at Teen Missions. She is very excited to start this journey. Even though she is only minutes away, it is still tough as she isn’t living at home anymore, and our family dynamics have changed once again. We are really going to miss her, but we know she is right where the Lord wants her. We are also so thankful we do get to see her fairly often.

Jonathan has started his Junior year at Merritt Island Christian School, and Jesse has started 5th grade at home. Annabelle is in South Carolina, living with Mary’s parents, and working full time at Chick-Fil-a. She will be there until she gets married.

Also, we are already making plans for summer ministry in 2026!! As of right now, we are planning to lead a team to the Philippines. Jonathan has also signed up for a summer team to Paraguay.

All of this to say, please pray for us as we’re navigating new seasons of life with Allison away in school, Annabelle preparing for her wedding and only having two children at home now. Please pray for Mary as she is home schooling Jesse and continuing to work with the onboarding of potential/new staff at Teen Missions. Please pray for Brant as he serves in the Maintenance Department and on the Board of Directors at the ministry. We also ask for prayers for all four of our children: Annabelle as she works and prepares for her marriage to Josh Planty, Allison as she is in school and will be working hard in her classes and other areas of the ministry at Teen Missions, Jonathan as he is in 11th grade and possibly working a part time job soon, and Jesse as he is in 5th grade and doing his studies.

We thank you for being such a blessing to our family. We are grateful for your faithful prayers, encouragement, friendship and giving. Please stay in touch, and let us know if you would like for us to come visit you or speak to your youth group or church. We would love to hear from you!

God bless,

    Brant & Mary Lane
