Colombia Wrap-Up: Finishing Strong and Grateful

It’s hard to believe this will be our final report from Colombia! The past three days have been a whirlwind as we’ve worked hard to finish both the big and small projects around the Teen Missions Colombia base. The team has been incredibly diligent—tying up loose ends and beginning work on their debrief presentations.

Thursday will be our last full day of work, and on Friday we’ll work a half day before beginning to pack. Until then, we’ll continue cleaning up and completing as many projects as possible.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to finish the roof project, but we’re proud to say we got it started! It turned out to be a much larger undertaking than expected, but the team has successfully completed many other projects on the property. These included: building two sidewalks, installing fence posts, clearing brush and trees, digging steps into the mountainside, excavating space for a future house, transporting materials, and planting trees and other vegetation. We still need to finish pouring concrete for two more sidewalks and laying bricks for some drainage areas. There are a few other small tasks left to complete in our limited time, but we’re confident we can wrap them up before heading to Bogotá on Saturday.

On Sunday, we have a four-hour layover at the Miami airport, where we plan to get lunch and make phone calls home. Keep an eye out between 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM EST for these area codes: (434), (303), and (717)—you might be getting a call from your teen using a leader’s phone!

If possible, I’ll send another report on Sunday to share all that we did during our day in Bogotá.

We are scheduled to arrive at Orlando International Airport on American Airlines flight 1706 at 4:42 PM. From there, we’ll head to the Teen Missions International property on Merritt Island for debrief.

Thank you so much for blessing us with your children and trusting us to care for them this summer. It has truly been an honor. Your teens are incredible—we’ve been so blessed by their hearts, attitudes, and willingness to serve. We’ve all learned so much this summer, and we hope we’ve discipled them well.

Please continue to pray for us during these final days in Colombia:

  • That we finish strong
  • That we complete our projects
  • For safety as we sightsee and travel
  • And that the team won’t grow weary, but will be open to all God wants to teach them during debrief
