Amanda Evans Newsletter (Fall 2022)

Amanda Evans Newsletter (Fall 2022)

Hey Family & Friends,

I was blessed to help lead the South Africa team this summer with three other leaders—two first-time leaders and a fellow staff member. At the beginning of training, there were 11 kids on the team.  We gained one more due to him not being able to get a new passport in time. The team members were between the ages of 13 to 19 yrs old. We were thankful for our safe flights to and from South Africa. Our project was located at the Teen Mission base. The team worked on various projects such as scraping the walls of old dormitories and repainting them, patching a roof to prevent future leaking, and digging a hole for a new bathroom.

The team also shared the Good News by doing presentations at some local churches. They also had the opportunity to share through singing, puppets and drama during some street ministry. At the beginning of the summer I was hesitant because the last couple of years there were a lot of struggles. But, Praise the Lord, it was a very good summer.

It was also nice being in South Africa because it was winter there. We left hot and humid Florida and arrived in South Africa having to wear a hoodie. We all enjoyed the cooler temperatures.

After the summer we worked in the office for about a week before heading out on deputation/vacation. I chose to volunteer with Samaritan’s Purse in Kentucky where this summer they had major flooding. I spent two weeks helping mud out houses, cleaning up trees and debris and going through their stuff trying to save what we could. I never thought I would go do this, but I was so blessed in the past when I have worked with them that I wanted to do it again. It’s also fun to meet new people, and if you keep going, you usually see some of the same people volunteering. One of the best parts is after we finish a house, we give a Bible to them. It is not just any Bible— it is a special Billy Graham Bible and it has the top 50 questions that people have asked him and the answers he gave with Scripture. Also, everyone that has worked on their house signs it.

Fall time!! We are back to work. Since being back we had a great staff/student retreat with volunteers, some board members and some onboarding staff. We were able to go to Bradenton, FL which is on the West Coast. We were able to talk about the summer and also enjoyed playing games, and just hanging out together. It was a great time together!

The teams for 2023 are being finalized now. Pray for wisdom to choose the right locations and for the team members as they sign up.

During the months of December and January, there are national Boot Camps that run in Honduras, Australia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Pray as these young people are trained to share the Gospel in their own country.

Now to all my supporters; prayerfully and financially, I couldn’t do this without you guys. Thank you so much for your prayers and finances.

Lord Bless,

Amanda Evans
