Madagascar is Rocking and Rolling!

After 50+ hours of travel and beating the jet lag, the Madagascar team is thriving going into their first full week. Our first four days in country have been nothing short of exciting and fruitful.

Friday, July 4th

The morning was spent getting ourselves situated in rooms, getting the kitchen ready (which is very nice!), and making sure our project site was ready for a bunch of ambitious teens. In the afternoon we started our main project which is pouring a footer and foundation for new staff housing. The layout of the building is centered on a slope so the team has to combat against the incline by digging and then using the excess dirt to level out the bottom side. In the evening, the team enjoyed playing soccer and basketball with the Madagascar staff here at the Teen Missions base. As a leadership, it is so cool to see our young people fellowship with like-minded believers in a country where not all of us speak the same language. The Madagascar staff do their very best to speak English to us and are doing a great job teaching us the Malagasy common phrases.

Saturday, July 5th

We had a morning that was full of work and then in our afternoon time we enjoyed some classes. We were able to work on our presentation set that we had to prepare for Sunday. Due to the lengthy travel and getting settled in, the team really appreciated the time to prepare for the presentation as they gained quality team chemistry and grew their evangelism skills. Our amazing lady leaders cooked up a chicken enchilada casserole that the team enjoyed (also, one of Mr. Timothy’s all-time favorites)

Sunday, July 6th

As we started our first full week, we did our final preparations for the church presentation. It was a fun practice because we were battling our morning voices having just woken up, everyone got a good laugh from that. The leaders in the kitchen made coffee cake and after devotions we headed off to church. The team traveled in the back of a flatbed diesel truck with benches on the top of the bed. Half of the team went first with some of the Madagascar TMI staff, while the other half waited and went in the second run. The team really enjoyed church with the Malagasy people. It was a very cool experience as we got to meet the senior pastor who is originally from Norway, but was a missionary kid who moved to Ghana. His parents were missionaries, and now he is a missionary in Madagascar with his wife. They were so welcoming and kind to host us. The team did a great job in the presentation as they presented songs, dramas and most of all, testimonies of how the Lord has worked in their lives. We got to hear testimonies and explanations of the Gospel message from Luke O, Ryan M, and Wade W. After church, we headed back to the Teen Missions base to have fried PBJ’s and to take some time to rest. The team worked on their verse reviews and had a time of Bible study to close out the night.

We are giving God all the praise for what He is doing in and through this team. We want to thank you for allowing us the opportunity to be in ministry with your young people. They are doing an amazing job! They are encouraging to watch and a joy to be around. This crew has so much fun together, and there is no shortage of laughter.

Prayer requests:
Pray for this week’s ministry opportunities at Sunday Schools (Tuesday & Thursday)
Praise the Lord and continue to pray for good heath for the team
Pray for each individual as we all aspire to grow closer to God each and every day

Testimonies from the Team:

Dear friends and family, I’ve been having a great time in Madagascar. The people are so nice and welcoming. We went to church yesterday and it was a privilege to see their joy as we worshiped together. We have only been here for a few days, but we have made a lot of progress on our project and I am excited to see what we will be able to complete. One of my favorite parts of the trip so far is getting to play soccer with the students and staff at the base. It is clear that the Lord is with us and I’m excited to see what he will do through us this summer.

Dear friends and family,
The people in Madagascar are very fun and welcoming. They are always full of joy and laughter that is accompanied with so much smiling. On Sunday, we got to go to a church and we’re blessed with the opportunity to do a presentation. The worship was very upbeat and enthusiastic. The work is also going very smoothly. In free time we are really enjoying playing soccer and basketball with the students and staff here at the Teen Missions Madagascar base. The kids are very fun and love to watch us as we construct the staff housing. It’s been a joy to have a part in the worship on the team by helping with playing the guitar. I am very excited to see what God has in store for us for the summer. Also, shout out to Mrs. Tammy Winter and Mrs. Kristy Tucker… Also, I love you, mom.
