Our last Sunday in Peru.

Our last Sunday in Peru is drawing to a close, and it's a reminder that our time at Refuge of Hope is winding down. Since our last report, our team has completed the painting in the dining hall (inside and out, except for the mural and some touch up painting), and work is continuing to repair the roof on one of the buildings. Repairing the roof of the girls' dorm building ended up being a bigger undertaking than expected, but we are praying the work will be completed by Friday. It is quite a sight to see the newly built trusses put on the roof, and it is definitely a team effort. Please pray for those working on the roof, that the job will be completed safely.

We worked half a day on Saturday, then after lunch, most of the team walked to the mall to help get groceries for our meals and buy a few things for themselves. Sunday morning started early as we had to be ready to leave for church by 9am. The trip to church took about 30 minutes by bus. We arrived late for the service because of the bus having maintenance issues. However the congregation patiently waited and gave us a warm welcome. The church we attended was actually built by a Teen Missions team from the US in 2011 and 2012. During the service, our team shared a presentation. Enzo and Aspen shared their testimony during, and Tabitha and Ayden accompanied the team with the guitar and keyboard during the songs they shared. We presented a puppet show to the song, "Child of the King," and a drama called Battleground. Following the team's presentation, a group of teens from the church shared songs for us. This group attended a Peru Boot Camp that was held this past January in Pucallpa. We were blessed to hear their songs, and it was neat to meet youth that have been through a Teen Mission Boot Camp in a different country. Following their songs, Mr. Brant shared a sermon to the church with the help of Enzo translating. After church, we enjoyed cold sodas, plantain chips and cake that was gifted to our team by the church family.

On Sunday afternoon, we had the pleasure to be visited by Joy Carrera, a Wycliffe missionary pilot that is currently serving with South American Missions (their missions base joins Refuge of Hope). She shared her testimony of how the Lord called her to be an airplane pilot and nurse and some of her experiences. She gladly answered many questions from our team, and I believe everyone enjoyed hearing from her.

This evening, the team once again practiced their memory verse quizzing, then Sylas shared a devotion. Everyone had a full day and was ready for some rest as we prepare to begin a new week. Once again, please continue praying for us. Pray for the strength and energy needed to complete the work projects, pray for safety, and also pray for good health. A few of us have been under the weather with colds, so please pray for complete healing.

We look forward to what the Lord has in store for us in Pucallpa this week, and we will be cherishing this time together as our time in Peru comes to an end.

Team member testimony:

Hey Family!
I’m having so much fun in Peru. We’re almost done working on the building and almost finished painting the dining hall. Our sight-seeing day was epic! We rode boats out to this little market and walked to a church in the area. Then we went to a little zoo and swam in a pool. We came back from sight seeing and waited for our bus back to the project site at this little park area where we got to evangelize to the people there. We just went to the mall nearby, and I got things to bring home and lots of snacks. I can’t believe that our time is almost over, and I’m so excited to see you in less than two weeks! -Penny
