Serving with Joy in Pucallpa

Our second week in Peru has been busy as we’ve been working on the property and sharing with the Refuge of Hope kids.

So far this week, we’ve been continuing the work of building new roof trusses and putting support beams in the same building. Others cleared brush around the fence on the back of the property so we can repair it. Another group has been busy painting the walls and windows inside the dining building. This week, the team shared presentations two separate times, once to the elementary students and a second time to the secondary school. Several team members had the opportunity to help in the classrooms, which was a fun time for them! During the day, we allow our team members to take a break from work to play with the school children during their recess. Spending time with the students here has been a great chance for our team to share Christ’s love!

In the evenings, we have team members share during our group devotion time followed by prayer then exchanging affirmation beads (your kids will let you know more about that when they return home). It’s such a blessing to have that evening team time!

Today (Thursday), we took our sight seeing day. We traveled about 30 minutes by bus then took a boat ride to a local community where they sold handmade souvenirs. Many of us purchased items to bring home for family and friends. We then continued our boat ride to a small zoo where several team members held a python. We had a picnic lunch there followed by time in their swimming pool. Later this evening we will be enjoying an authentic Peruvian meal.

Tomorrow we will continue our work projects, and on Sunday, we will visit another local church. The team is doing well overall. Several of us have head colds, but it hasn’t been too bad. Please continue praying for us as we serve in Pucallpa!

Team Testimonies:
We have done some painting of the dining room and cut the bushes around the fence we are repairing and put in 3 almost 4 trusses. We have cold running water showers which makes showering a lot faster. My favorite part so far is eating meals and the weird line up orders we do to get food. -Charity

So far we have got the dining hall painted and we’ve cleared out a large area behind the fence, and I’ve been having a good time with the kids. I’m very blessed to be able to speak the native language (Spanish) and able to communicate and have fun with the kids. It’s been an amazing experience so far, and I can’t wait to see what God has planned for us these last days we have in Peru. I’m very thankful to have been assigned to this team. -Enzo

The past days were fun. I got to help with a class. Last night Miss Emma made Navajo Tacos. They were so good. Today we went souvenir shopping and sight seeing. We went on a boat down the river. We went to the zoo, and and I got to hold an anaconda snake. We gave tracts out at the park. I’ve spent time with the team members. Peru is fun. I’m excited to see y’all soon. -Jesse (head leaders’ son)
