We’re Safe and Settling into Our New Temporary Home in Colombia!
We arrived in Bogotá, Colombia, on Sunday afternoon around 1:00 PM. After a long night at the Orlando airport and a few hours in Miami, the team was eager to get to the Teen Missions base and get some much-needed rest! All things considered, our travel went smoothly—certainly better than some of the other teams—so you won’t hear us complaining!
The drive from the airport to the base was pleasantly uneventful. We stopped for a late lunch around 3:00 PM and arrived at the base by 6:30 PM. That evening, we enjoyed some fellowship with the staff and students here, and the team had the chance to practice their Spanish. Sunday night wrapped up quickly, as everyone was completely exhausted—we all settled in and got a good night’s sleep.
Monday: Rest and Orientation
Monday was our first full day in Colombia, and we tried to treat it as a rest day. The team received a tour of the base and were in awe of the incredible views—especially of the obstacle course staged along the mountainside. They even tackled some of the obstacles! One group attempted to cross the slough while doing backflips on two ropes. Their first attempt ended in a splash, but since they were already soaked, they kept going and improved with each try. We didn’t think we’d be dealing with wet boots again after Boot Camp, but we were wrong!
Tuesday: First Work Day
Tuesday marked our first full day of work. Much of the time was spent on prep work and side projects as we waited for materials to arrive. It’s currently rainy season here, and the team got very muddy while digging into the mountainside to extend the sidewalk. They’re also demoing parts of the existing sidewalk and preparing the auditorium for re-roofing. Thankfully, the necessary materials arrived this evening, and work will continue tomorrow!
Other News: The Sourdough Lives!
In fun (and delicious) news—Mrs. Delaynie brought her sourdough starter to Colombia as an experiment, and we’re happy to report that it’s still alive! We’re adjusting for altitude and local ingredients, but fresh bread is on the horizon. Praise the Lord!
Prayer Requests-Please continue to pray for our team:
For health and safety as we work.
For strength and energy, that we won’t grow weary.
For healing, as a cold has been going around the team.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support!
Blessings,
Colombia Team Leaders.
Hey mom, dad, and Brooklyn,
I’m doing good! Colombia is wet and yeah. The view is amazing here. I forgot to tell you something really funny that happened at Boot Camp. I lost my voice really bad, and when Bella and I were talking with saying, he was laughing so hard because of how my voice sounded. It was really funny! I’m having a great time here! It’s a lot of fun. The showers are freezing, but it’s fine. I love you guys so much! Give the cats my love! Lol. -Nakia E.
Dear mom and Dad,
It’s a lot colder here but we have mattresses! We work seven hours a day and have around three biblical devotions. The showers are freezing cold and I keep sliding down our mud hills. The food is great, the view is amazing, and on our first day working, I slid downhill collecting guavas. Love you, tell Katie I said “hi “and to give the kittens each a hug for me! -Hannah H.
Dear parents, supporters, and friends of the Teen Missions international Colombia team, my name is Isaiah W, and it has been three full days at Colombia. Personally, I love it here, all of it shows God. The view, the people, and the actions. We have started working, digging out some holes, so that they can be turned into sidewalks. We also started to tear apart a sidewalk and a roof. God has shown me that wherever you are, you can see God. It doesn’t matter where, because everything points to Him, thank you for your prayers and support on behalf of the Colombia team. - Isaiah W.
