Teen Trip ages: 13-19
Region: Central America

Location: Joyabaj, Guatemala

Dates of involvement: June 18 - July 26, 2024

Ministry Focus
: Work Projects, Local Evangelistic Outreaches, Cross Cultural Missions,

Guatemala stands out as a country blessed with breathtaking mountainous landscapes and a remarkable distinction—holding the highest number of volcanoes across Central America. This captivating nation offers a remarkable tapestry of rugged mountains and serene lakes.

Your upcoming journey with Send Me, a dynamic local ministry located in Joyabaj, presents an exciting opportunity to serve the K’iche’ people. As you embark on work projects and engage in evangelism within the area, your team is poised to make a significant impact, leaving an enduring mark on the lives of those you touch.

Estimated Project Expense: $ 3290 U.S. plus $30 Registration Fee

Ministry Project

Once you reach your destination in Joyabaj, your main project is mixing and pouring a concrete driveway. Your host missionaries have a mobile medical clinic that is currently unable to reach the top of the mountain to provide medical assistance to the locals in that area because of the bad roads. Your team will have a huge impact as you help meet this need.

You'll also have opportunities to share the Gospel through drama and puppets with the K’iche’  people in the surrounding villages. The K’iche’ are a Mayan people indigenous to Guatemala.

Travel and Sightseeing

Following Boot Camp, your team will travel from Orlando International Airport to Guatemala City, where you will be greeted by your missionary from Send Me. Once you have all of your bags you will travel by bus for several hours to Joyabaj.

During your stay in Joyabaj there will be opportunities to shop and barter at local markets for souvenirs. You will also have a day of sightseeing at an ancient Mayan ruins several hours from your location. Another sightseeing option that is available is spending the day visiting a beautiful lake several hours away.
Boot Camp
Boot Camp is a time of training to prepare the teams for their mission fields. Our Boot Camp program is designed to build team unity and provide practical, physical and spiritual training. We tailor each Boot Camp experience according to the skills needed for each team. This primitive training will be at the Teen Missions base in Merritt Island, Florida. A Commissioning Service will be held at the end of Boot Camp for all team members and leaders before flying out to their mission field.
Debrief
To cap off the summer experience, teams will return to the Teen Missions base in Florida for a shared Debrief time with other teams. The debriefing experience is essential to our summer team program for team members and leaders. During Debrief, the teams engage in different classes, allowing them to reflect on their summer and become equipped to take what they have learned on the mission field back home to their churches, youth groups, schools and communities. In addition, we focus on fellowship, sharing summer experiences amongst the teams and preparing them spiritually, mentally, and emotionally for their return home.
