Musings from my front porch view...
I am sitting here in the dining area of the kitchen watching Ava and Shannon chopping apples, Bismark starting to work on the bread that will be consumed tomorrow for travel (He's making Peanut Butter and Jelly rolls, Nutella rolls and bacon/cheese rolls). Lauren is finishing up the rolls that I started at 4:30 this morning (before we ran out of gas...) and helping KP with the dishes we are bringing to dinner tonight.
It is hard to believe that they are working on our last meal here. It seems like only just a few days ago that we were working on our first meal. I have thoroughly enjoyed cooking for this team and watching them eat as if it was their last meal. It has been fun hearing them say, "This is good!" and my response, "This is the last time you will see it!".
The team finished their work project yesterday. Even though it is not complete, they made a huge dent in what needed to be accomplished. They completed the floors and outside walls up to lintel level. To think that just over three weeks ago, the building only had the columns and foundation form. Seeing what they have completed is such a blessing—the staff are so grateful for all that was accomplished.
Today will be our last GG, library reading and Bible study. I think I will miss the Bible study the most. I have continued to be amazed at the team members' comments and questions. We have all been challenged and hopefully, have developed a renewed hunger to really dig into His Word.
Some of the fun moments these past few days:
1. Sadie raises her hand after Bismark asks a question during Bible Study: "Mr. Bismark, there is a snake under my chair." The guys came to the rescue with a shovel...
2. Sitting outside in the cool breeze just before sunset and seeing some of the team members "playing golf" with sticks. Luke M. (I.e. "Lunchie") has a pretty good swing
3. Seeing the guard dogs, who used to bark at us, come up to us for some love (and dropped food if available).
4. A chicken coming through my kitchen window
5. The goats walking by, stopping and just staring at us
6. The sun rises and sunsets
7. And this morning, the rainbows
8. Seeing two of the students chasing a chicken and then seeing almost the whole team chasing chickens—not sure they realize those chickens will be dinner tonight...
9. After the "chicken chase", Lunchie went to take a shower and had an encounter with the chicken. Not sure who won the battle...(but he had us in stitches at lunch!).
10. Samara had a "dream" last night that a goat was in her room staring at her. Come to find out, it was not a dream...
We will have breakfast and devotions tomorrow morning before packing up the tractor with our luggage and walking to the main highway where we will board the bus for a four-hour trip to Siem Reap. We will message the office once we arrive. Our plan is to check into our hotel and then head out for some shopping. On Friday, we will visit Angkor Wat and do any last minute shopping. We will leave for the airport after an early breakfast on Saturday. The team will probably not have time to call home from Los Angeles since we have to go through Customs, but there will be more time to call from Dallas. Please answer any calls from 321, 952, or 919 area codes sometime on Sunday.
