Open hands and open hearts.
That has started to mean something different for us this week as the first Leader Training Seminar for the Mexico Boot Camp started on Friday night.
Over this past week Miss Emily and Miss Angela have been running the kitchen with expertise. Filling our stomachs with delicious and abundant food. During KP Benjamin and Andrew even made a vegetable spread in the shape of the American Flag for Independence Day. After lunch on Friday the kitchen was turned over to the Boot Camp cooks to start preparing the meals for everyone. We have been enjoying the Mexican meals each day as we try new flavors and various types of tacos!
Our work on the obstacle course (OC) is almost done! Many of the obstacles have been completed and it is very exciting for everyone to see it come together.
Cory even came up with an idea for a new obstacle based off of the passage in Matthew 7 about the narrow way that leads to life. The team got busy making the obstacle which includes 2 people rolling a tire along a narrow path together.
Peyton has been a huge help with the 10 Commandments obstacle. Micah helped create the Hezekiah's Tunnel obstacle using pine needles and tree branches from around the property. Evan has put his carpentry skills to good use building the Wall. Fiona has been busy painting the wall and many signs for the OC around the property.
Today the team went out to get supplies for the Jacob's Ladder obstacle that we will put together tomorrow. We picked up scaffolding materials for the obstacle from a church and while we were there we were able to share a presentation with the members there. Lily and Mr. Josh played their instruments and the rest of the team sang. They sang 2 songs in Spanish that they have been working on and they did an excellent job! Lily and Fiona shared testimonies with the church about what God has done and is doing in their lives.
The leader kids have been playing "school" as one way to keep busy. Little did they know that classes were about to begin. One of the Teen Missions staff from Colombia learned about their little class and she began sitting down with the kids and teaching them Spanish. They now have an official Spanish class every day and they are taking notes and practicing with the leaders that are here for training! The kids have been having a great time with each other and have lots of activities and people to keep them busy. They each love to be involved with the team in any and every activity that they can.
Friday evening started a new adventure in the dorm rooms that the guys and girls were using. That night all the leaders and volunteers that will be part of the Mexico Boot Camp joined our team in the rooms making what was a spacious living quarters feel pretty tight. We have been reminding each other to have open hands and rooms as we are now surrounded by people who do many things differently than we do. We are taking this as an opportunity to love and serve.
We are thankful for our families, friends, and all of you who are praying for us! We have so much to be thankful for and we are excited about what God is doing through us here in Guadalajara.
Here are a few ways you can continue to pray.
- Continued health and safety
- Continued team unity, bonding and growth in loving each other and those around us well
- Spiritual growth among the team and spiritual fruit at the upcoming Boot Camp
