Romania is wrapping it up!
Here at Poarta Oiler, it’s another week—which means another camp! This week our team is serving and cleaning for a camp of kids who are part of the Roma ethnic group.
The team has been working hard doing dishes, cleaning, and taking on small service projects.
In the kitchen, we’ve had a few mishaps with our temperamental dishwashing machine. This has meant handwashing dishes for some meals. It takes longer, but the team has had a great attitude about it!
The work crew has been busy with smaller service projects around the property. They cleared out an old attic that needed things removed and thrown away. They’ve been cleaning and even doing some digging around the pool.
On Sunday, the team was blessed to have a church hold their service at Poarta Oiler. The kids got to sing hymns in English while the congregation sang the same hymns in Romanian. It was a beautiful reminder that we serve a global God.
After church, we enjoyed a time of fellowship over a group meal. The whole team was delighted to eat lasagna and brownies, it was a special day for sure!
Another Sunday highlight was the team going swimming. After all their hard work on the pool, they spent the evening enjoying a pool party. The water was cold, but everyone had a great time. Josiah captured lots of fun videos and photos of the team swimming on his go pro.
Recently, we’ve had a bit more time on our hands since finishing the pavers. With this extra time, we’ve been able to go out and share the Gospel in the village of Garbova. The team has shared testimonies and even learned the doxology in Romanian! They’re also going out Friday evening for evangelism. Please pray that the Holy Spirit would go before us and prepare hearts.
The extra time has also been helpful for studying memory verses and finishing up their final reviews. Most of the team has completed their final verse review, we’re so proud of them for the effort they’ve put in!
On Wednesday, the team had the opportunity to walk up the hill to an old cemetery. They really enjoyed hiking up and looking at the very old gravestones. Since the team hasn’t left Poarta Oiler much (due to not having a large enough vehicle), this outing was refreshing and exciting!
As we look toward the end of this week, it’s easy to focus on our upcoming departure. But we’re striving to stay present and intentional as our time on the field draws to a close. Thank you so much for your prayers!
