Romania Team Field Report
The team has successfully settled in and started on their project! Our flights went very well. The team slept a lot and enjoyed beautiful views of the New York skyline during our Newark layover, as well as a glimpse of the alps above the clouds as we flew into Munich.
The team got their tents set up in the soccer field. They were grateful for the warm showers and washing machines. Romania’s weather is incredibly mild compared to the heat of Florida! Despite that the team didn’t quite realize how much sun there is here and they ended up a bit sunburnt. (Don’t worry Wesley found a solution to protect the back of his neck, see photo below).
Half of the team has started working on various construction projects. They are working on gravel and pavers around the pool. Some of them are working on a new driveway entrance for the front gate.
The other half of the team has been doing hospitality work for the camps that are running on the Youth For Christ base. They have been serving meals, doing hundreds of dishes, sweeping, mopping, and of course, keeping the bathrooms clean.
The schedule has been a little challenging to configure because the projects vary widely and some of them have fixed times (meal clean up). However the team has had excellent attitudes and servant hearts. They have jumped right in and been glad to serve. As leaders we are so proud and impressed with their hard work.
As we were speaking with the camp director we explained that the team members were “unplugged” for the summer. They were amazed commenting how “radical” it was that these teens gave up their phones for the summer. We couldn’t agree more! One of our favorite things about teams is getting away from technology and watching the everyone come more “alive” as we serve together.
Thank you for sharing your teens with us. They are constantly making us laugh. What a privilege it is to get to serve the Lord and have influence over these teens!
