The Iowa Team is in the home stretch!

The Iowa Team is in the home stretch!

The Iowa Team is in the home stretch!
It’s incredible to think that the team is nearly finished. We’re down to the last few days of work. Then it’s pack out and off to Florida for debrief!
The kids have really had a fun week of sightseeing and projects. The team got to go to a water park on Tuesday. The park had three fun slides and a wave pool. The kids really enjoyed the day in the water. Our missionary even rented inter tubes for them, they had so much fun riding the waves in them!
A fun time was had by all (including the leaders on deck chairs). The only not awesome part, was that some of us got a bit sun burnt. In particular, one leader, who’s legs had clearly never seen the light of day, got toasted pretty well. But we got through it as a team, with a bottle of aloe vera in our hand.
On Wednesday the team got to help serve a fundraising meal for Jericho Hills Camp. It was fun for the team to serve in a new way. They portioned up meals, boxed the meals, and served them in a drive thru type system. The team did a good job, and we were able to sell a couple hundred meals!
Thursday the team woke up to rain. Since all of their work projects are outdoors, the team was left with nothing to work on. So our missionary decided to send them on a souvenir shopping trip!
The team loaded into the 15 passenger van. The kids enjoyed the Christian music on the radio, and we jammed the whole hour up to West Des Moine. The kids were able to buy Iowa T shirts, sweat pants, and jackets. It was a fun chill time for them to buy stuff to remember their team by.
Several kids tried to wear their shiny new Iowa shirts to the worksite today. However the leaders had a good chat about how work clothes, get dirty, and that even if they tried very hard to keep their fancy new Iowa shirts clean, looking at their past record of work shirts, it simply wouldn’t happen. Several team members than went and changed out of their Iowa merch and into their old work clothes.
Last night the team got go to a free Gospel music concert. The kids really enjoyed the music, and the desserts after!
Overall, it’s been a fun week for the Iowa team. We are so close to the end, and the kids have done so well!
Please pray with us as we finish out these last few days. That the kids and leaders would be faithful. That Jesus would be working in us and through us. And that the upcoming travel would go smoothly.
Here’s some quotes from the kids:
Selena W: The Holy Spirit has really been showing me new stuff in my devos. I liked shoveling the sand for the volley ball court. It’s easier than shoveling the rocks and dirt.
Jasmin W: It’s been pretty fun. The water park was one of my favorite parts. We had a great time together as a team.
Breanna A: Having a dedicated time for prayer has been really good for me. One of the main things Jesus has been teaching me this summer is forgiveness, how we really need to forgive no matter what. Jesus wants us to forgive others always, just like He forgives us.
In Christ,
The Iowa Team
